Destination guides
Where to go, where to stay and how to get around, region by region.
Independent travel publisher · Est. 2006
Pizote Press publishes a group of travel websites read by people planning trips to Costa Rica from all over the world. We began in 2006 with MontezumaBeach.com, became Costa Rica Journeys Network in 2011, and took our new name in 2026 for our 20th anniversary.
Our story
About us
Pizote Press was founded in 2006 with the launch of MontezumaBeach.com, a site dedicated to bringing kind, eco-conscious travellers to Montezuma and Santa Teresa on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula. Its idea was simple: honest, practical information, written by people who know and love the place.
In 2011 it was rebranded as Costa Rica Journeys Network and grew into a group of independent travel websites covering the country's beaches, rainforests and mountains, its wellness and adventure travel, its food and culture, and everyday life for the people who live there.
In 2026, for our 20th anniversary, we became Pizote Press: a new name for the same mission, and a sign of where we're going next.
What we publish
Where to go, where to stay and how to get around, region by region.
Wildlife, surf, sailing, wellness and adventure, explained by people who've done them.
Food, festivals, community and the practical side of life in Costa Rica.
Our newsletter: the best of Costa Rica, chosen by our editors. Coming soon.
Our principles
We describe places as they really are, so readers can plan with confidence.
We show the actual hotels, beaches and trails, not stock fantasies.
Guides are reviewed and refreshed, because Costa Rica keeps changing.
Fast, clear websites that work on any phone, anywhere in the world.
Curious, social and always exploring. That's how the pizote travels, and it's how we publish.
Why "pizote"?
The pizote, or white-nosed coati, is one of Costa Rica's most familiar animals. It roams forest trails and beaches in lively groups, tail held high, poking into every corner to see what's there.
